Flirting/Affection

Frieren is asexual and demiromantic. It takes her a long time to recognize romantic approaches from others, and to develop romantic feelings herself. So while I am open to characters attempting to flirt with Frieren, it most likely will not be reciprocated.

Additionally, please restrict flirtation to adult characters only (20+).

Let's discuss OOC first, to determine severity and also whether I am feeling up to playing such things out at this particular time!

Out of Character
Backtagging

I will likely want to drop/handwave/wrap up threads after 1+ months, and/or if I am feeling overwhelmed and bogged down by old threads. I find it much easier to remain invested if threads are new.

Threadjacking

Would prefer OOC communication between all parties involved before you hop into a thread I'm doing with someone else! Also, try to read the room before threadjacking... If a post/thread is about a lighthearted or sentimental topic, maybe don't jump in to derail about something more serious or accusatory, etc.

Network threads explicitly marked as private, etc. are of course off limits for threadjacks.

Handwaving

For meme threads, I'm usually OK to assume/handwave previous CR, for the point of getting characters to a point where they would be familiar enough with each other to be having this scene/conversation.

For game threads, I am generally OK handwaving, except that I would prefer to thread out first meetings and important CR developments.

Fourthwalling

Most of the time, I am OK with some level of fourthwalling— especially when it comes to characters who are canonically fourth wall breakers, such as Deadpool/Gwenpool. However there are some characters I may feel differently about, so it's generally best to reach out and ask first!

For the most part, I would prefer that fourth wall breaks be general (i.e. "Gee, Frieren, your life sounds a lot like a fantasy anime!") rather than specific (i.e. "You're a fictional character created by Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe and serialized in Weekly Shounen Sunday"). Again, if you're unsure of my comfort level with regards to a specific fourth wall breaking reference, feel free to just DM me and ask!

Opt-Out

If you would like to opt-out of interacting with me or with Frieren for any reason, please comment below. Comments are screened for your privacy.

Mage Abilities

Immense mana output — Frieren's level of mana (the magical power which allows mages to cast spells) is incredibly high. When unrestrained, her mana output is among the highest of anyone known in history.

Mana concealment — Frieren was trained by her mentor to restrain and/or conceal her mana, which she uses as a tool of deception against demons. Most mages can only somewhat conceal their mana, for short periods of time, but Frieren has trained to such a level that she is in a constant state of concealing the majority of her mana output, which often causes her opponents to underestimate her.

Mana detection — Frieren is proficient in detecting the mana of other mages, demons, and monsters. She can recognize demons by the characteristics of their mana, and can sense mana from up to ten kilometers away.

Frieren's mana detection is interrupted while she is casting a spell, which leaves her open to attacks from mages who are concealing their mana.

Analytical ability — Frieren excels at analyzing and countering magic, even magic which is known do defy logic and reason, and may be impenetrable to other mages of her world.

Offensive Spells

Zoltraak — A spell which was originated by the demon Qual. Frieren contributed to humanity's study of this spell and converted it from a demon's "killing magic" into humanity's "demon-killing magic." It takes the form of either a large blast, or multiple smaller blasts of concentrated mana.

This is Frieren's go-to combat spell.

Judradjim — Multiple bolts of destructive lightning shot from Frieren's staff towards a target.

Vollzanbel — A large blast of summoned hellfire which envelops the battlefield and melts or vaporizes flammable materials.

Black Hole — A spell which creates a minor black hole, attracting and atomizing surrounding objects.

Shatter — A colorful spell which causes fragments of space around the caster to shatter.

"The Height of Magic" — An undetectable spell which repels the target with a powerful telekinetic blast. The last time Frieren needed to use this spell in combat is when she and her adventuring party defeated the Demon King 80 years ago.

Defensive Spells

Barrier — The caster creates a hexagonal grid of force fields, either in small bunches to block specific attacks, or in a complete dome around the caster. Most modern mages are able to use this spell in combat.

Unnamed protective spell — A defensive spell developed by Frieren to dispel and nullify a specific curse, after spending two months analyzing said curse.

Mental defenses — Using an old spell formula, Frieren can resist most conventional hypnosis and mind-altering magic.

Support Spells

Flight — Allows the caster to levitate and maneuver throught the air.

Sealing magic — Can turn powerful opponents to stone for eighty years.

Floating — A telekinetic spell which can lift objects, with many day-to-day uses.

Dispelling — After careful analysis, cancels out the effects of an opponent's spell.

Finding Lost Accessories — Makes the lost accessory glow brightly to be able to be seen from far away.

Poison/Illness Identification — Determines what type of poison, venom, or simple illness an individual has been afflicted with. Like other healing magic, this is primarily the domain of priests, so Frieren is not as adept with it, and needs the possession of a Holy Scripture to be able to cast it.

Golem Magic — Manipulates stones into a puppet golem, which can be ordered to move according to the caster's will and cast duplicates of other spells the caster is using.

Restraint Spell — Binds targets with a golden rope.

Memory Transference — Can transfer memories either from the caster to a target, or from a target to the caster.

Barrier Magic — Can envelop a target in a protective dome which cannot be pentrated.

Folk Magic

Spell to produce a field of flowers — The caster can choose which flowers grow, as long as they have seen the flower before.

Spell to pull someone out of a bottomless swamp — Also works for quicksand.

Spell that captures a bird. — Originally developed by hunters. Can trap any bird or birdlike creature in glowing bindings. Must be cast within a range of 50 centimeters.

Spell that shuts the door of a treasure vault at the risk of your life — Once the vault door is sealed, only the caster's death will reopen it.

Did your character willingly come to Iyashikei? If yes, why? Frieren would come willingly, as soon as she learned that there were new spells to be learned there. Even though she is in the middle of a very personal quest, being a nearly-immortal elf, Frieren has a very skewed sense of time and would have no problem taking a sojourn in Iyashikei for a few weeks, or months, or years.
Will they need any special accommodations upon arrival? no

Character's Personality:

Questions:
1. Tell us about who your character is and what someone’s first impression would be upon meeting them. How would your character act once someone got to know them?
Frieren gives off a very understated first impression. She is relatively soft-spoken and when she does speak, her words are straightforward and somewhat blunt. She has a hard time connecting with others, seeming to care only about her own interests, however if someone takes the time to get to know her, they will find her to be a dedicated and loyal friend, who takes notes of things like her friends' birthdays, traditions, and favorite foods. Given her long lifespan, Frieren can go 80 years without seeing someone, and upon reuniting with them will pick up right where they left off, talking and reminiscing late into the night.

In reality, Frieren is not as standoffish, nor as familiar as people may think. She is somewhere in the middle. She feels affection for her closest friends, but has a hard time showing it. Despite her advanced age, she doesn't really understand how to "people" well, and can act very self-servingly, although she really isn't all that selfish. She will do what she can to support and protect people around her, despite keeping most of them at arms' length.

2. What is something unique and interesting about them, or what is a fun little tidbit that sets them apart from the crowd?
Despite being a powerful and accomplished mage with a supreme analytical mind, Frieren will fall prey to a mimic's trap 99.999% of the time. Yes, she knows that most treasure chests found in dungeons are mimics, and not actual treasure chests. But if there's even a shred of a possibility that there is a rare grimoire inside, she will open the chest anyway, thereby finding herself stuck halfway in a mimic's gullet.

As such, she has intimate knowledge of how best to defeat and/or extract a person from a mimic's mouth. The secret is to push, instead of pull, which chokes the mimic and makes them spit out their prey. If one happens to find themselves being eaten by a mimic without anyone on the outside to assist in their escape, they can always destroy the mimic from the inside with a powerful enough mana blast straight into its stomach. Frieren doesn't like doing this, though, because it makes her hair get all frizzy.

3. What does your character think their flaws are? What do they think their strengths are? What are their actual flaws and strengths?
Frieren is pretty knowledgeable about her own strengths and flaws, when it comes to magical ability. She knows she is resistant to hypnosis and mind control, and that she can have a delayed reaction time when defending against incoming mana blasts.

Outside of magical ability, though, Frieren is less knowledgeable about her own strengths and weaknesses. She has little confidence in her ability to socialize or connect to people one-on-one, and often doesn't know how to react when someone is upset with her, begging a third party to come in and mediate.

In actuality, Frieren is a lot better at making friends and allies than she thinks she is. Having a lot of lived experience gives her many opportunities to empathize with people, even if she doesn't always notice those opportunities when they arise. She is personable around shopkeepers and inn workers, enough to talk her way into using a tavern kitchen to cook a birthday meal for her friends. She often will perform menial tasks for strangers in exchange for lodgings, food, or the chance to discover a new spell. Yes, conversation is somewhat strained and awkward, but she can sometimes know the right thing to say to cheer someone up when they are feeling down. She does not make close friends easily, but once made, those friendships will last forever.

4. What is a common misconception other characters have about your character?
The biggest misconception people have about Frieren is that she is just a run-of-the-mill mage. Elves are not very common in Frieren's world anymore— most of them have long since died out— and Frieren still looks relatively young, so many people don't realize just how long she has lived. Even after learning her name, many young people won't recognize her as the mage of the famous party of legendary heroes who defeated the Demon King 80 years ago.

Part of this is due to Frieren's deliberate efforts to conceal her mana levels. By concealing her mana output, she deceives her opponents (namely demons) into thinking she is less powerful than she truly is, which tricks them into underestimating her, allowing her to get close enough to deal a killing blow. Frieren has dedicated her life to the long con of killing as many demons as possible, seeking revenge for how demons killed her entire village when she was a child. Is it an underhanded tactic that a lot of other mages would frown upon? Yes, but it is what has led Frieren to kill more demons than anyone else who has ever lived, earning her the moniker "Frieren the Slayer" among demonkind.
